DownEast Maine Lighthouse

This fabric art collage is designed from
a picture I took on an island boat tour
in the area of Machias, Maine.

It's made from cotton print and
hand-dyed fabrics, with the border
gallery wrapped around the frame,
wired for hanging like a painting.
Free-motion quilting on the
background, with satin-stitching using
variegated cotton embroidery threads
in blues, teals and black/grey.

Springtime in Wengen, Switzerland

This fabric art collage is designed from
a picture I took during a ski trip in
Wengen. It is a stylized notion of what
springtime would look like in the
region, as the high pastures burst
through the snow fields.

It's made from cotton print and
hand-dyed fabrics, with the border
gallery wrapped around the frame,
wired for hanging. Free-motion quilting
with extra batting for textured drifts.

Ballet Dreams

This silk embroidered art is designed
from a sketches I made at a local
presentation of The Nutcracker.

I created the background digitally in a
watercolor style, then printed onto
100% silk. I water-brushed the silk before
heat-setting, to enhance the
watercolor appearance.
Embroidered with shiny lavender and
maroon rayon threads. Border is cream
dupioni silk, gallery wrapped on a wired
canvas frame.

Dancing Tangram Woman

Because the Tangram Man needs a
partner to dance with, I made him one.

I made another set of tangrams using an
extra-firm interfacing and 2 layers of a
beautiful oriental cotton print fabric.

I mounted the background fabric to a
stretched & wired canvas frame, using
extra batting for texture, then elevated
the tangram figure 3/8" above the
background for a 3-dimensional effect.

Dancing Tangram Man

I've always loved Tangrams. Ok, I'm a
geek, I admit it. They are cool, though.

I made actual sets of tangrams using an
extra-firm interfacing and 2 layers of a
beautiful oriental cotton print fabric.

I mounted the background fabric to a
stretched & wired canvas frame, using
extra batting for texture, then elevated
the tangram figure 3/8" above the

Sailboat Cruiser

Second in the sailbot pair, this is a
perfect match to the Racer. I created
the boat from strip-pieced dupioni silk
in magenta, teal, lavender, cream and
black. The background is hand-dyed
and print cotton fabrics, with
free-motion stitching giving the sky
and water texture. The tangrams are
raised 3/8" from the surface.
Gallery wrapped on a stretched
canvas frame, wired for hanging.

Tangram Geek Chic Robot

I found a really cool Vintage '70s fabric
that is classic early computer-era, and
thought it would be a fun setting for a
Geek Chic boomer-style Robot. The
blue swirl was the perfect complement.

The tangrams are made using an
extra-firm interfacing and 2 layers of a
beautiful oriental cotton print fabric.

The tangrams are raised 3/8" from the
surface for a 3-dimensional effect.
Gallery wrapped on a stretched
canvas frame, wired for hanging.

Tangram Cat in the Garden

Continuing in the Tangram series, this
cat is made from a beautiful sateen
jacquard cotton, levitated above an
oriental style floral print in plum, cream
and olive with metallic gold accents.

I made sets of tangrams using an
extra-firm interfacing and 2 layers of a
beautiful oriental cotton print fabric.

I mounted the background fabric to a
stretched & wired canvas frame, using
extra batting for texture, then elevated

Pont au Change, Paris

This fabric art collage depicts a view of
the bridge on the Seine overlooking
the Palais de Justice on Ile de la Cite.

The sky, water, trees and borders are
dupioni silk, with the border gallery
wrapped around the frame, wired for
hanging. The Palais and bridge are
cotton prints with satin stitching. Free
motion stitching with rayon and
monofilament thread gives greater
texture and detail.
